"The Girl from Ipanema" ("Garota de Ipanema") was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s that won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965. It was written in 1962, with music by Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes (1913-1980) with English lyrics written later by Norman Gimbel (who in 1984 was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame). The version of the song performed by Astrud Gilberto, along with João Gilberto and Stan Getz, from the 1964 album "Getz/Gilberto," became an international hit, reaching #5 in the United States, #29 in the United Kingdom, and charting highly throughout the world. In 2004, it was one of 50 recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry ( http://www.loc.gov/rr/record/nrpb/nrpb-home.html )
Stan Getz (1927-1991) - tenor saxophone; João Gilberto - guitar, vocals; Antonio Carlos Jobim - piano; Sebastião Neto - bass; Milton Banana - drums; Astrud Gilberto - vocals.

Olha que coisa mais linda
Mais cheia de graça
É ela menina que vem e que passa
Nun doce balanço, caminho do mar...
Moça do corpo dourado, do sol de Ipanema
O seu balançado é mais que un poema
É a coisa mais linda
Que eu já vi passar...
Ah! Porque estou tão sozinho
Ah! Porque tudo é tão triste
Ah! A beleza que existe
A beleza que não é só minha
Que também passa sozinha
Ah! Se ela soubesse
Que quando ela passa
O mundo sorrindo
Se enche de graça
E fica mais lindo
Por causa do amor
Por causa do amor
Por causa do amor

Tall and tan and young and lovely,
The girl from Ipanema goes walking,
And when she passes
Each one she passes goes "a-a-ah!"
When she walks she's like a samba that,
Swings so cool and sways so gently,
That when she passes
Each one she passes goes "a-a-ah!"
Oh, but he watches so sadly,
How can he tell her he loves her?
Yes, he would give his heart gladly
But each day when she walks to the sea,
She looks straight ahead not at him
Tall and tan and young and lovely,
The girl from Ipanema goes walking,
And when she passes
He smiles, but she doesn't see...

The Girl from Ipanema („Das Mädchen aus Ipanema) ist der bekanntere englische Titel eines populären, im Jahr 1962 von Antônio Carlos Jobim komponierten brasilianischen Musikstücks.
