Did John Mayer write a song about Taylor Swift?
Well, it was only a matter of time before John came up with a rebuttal to Taylor Swift's song, Dear John -- right? And today, was that day. John released a new single today, called Paper Doll -- and you guys, I don't know how we can say it's NOT about Taylor.
Let me just break it down for you.
In the new tune, which FYI -- will appear on John's upcoming album, Paradise Valley -- HOLY EXCITED -- he sings: "You're like 22 girls in one / And none of them know what they're running from / Was it just too far to fall for a little paper doll?"
Now, in Dear John -- Taylor SINGS: "All the girls that you run dry have tired lifeless eyes cause you burned them out." Plus, HELLO, Taylor has a song called "22″! John's lyric about 22 girls in one can also be a response to Taylor's other lyric in the song, where she sings: "Wondering which version of you I might get on the phone tonight."
I MEAN, a little weird -- right?
Another lyric in "Paper Doll" goes "Someone's gonna paint you another sky." This could be an answer to Taylor's lyric, "You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain."
And, as if that wasn't enough proof you guys -- I have one last momento of proof for ya. Remember in Dear John when Tay sang: "The girl in the dress cried the whole way home," -- well, in John's new song he sings: "Here's a dress of gold and blue/Sure was fun being good to you,"
Oh, and just have to add -- he also says QUOTE: "Fold a scarf, Moroccan red... And tie your hair behind your head."
It's almost too obvious, right?
And, there's no getting around the fact that Mayer was hurt by Taylor's song when it came out. He actually talked to Rolling Stone about it last year -- and said QUOTE: "it made me feel terrible Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.... I was really caught off-guard."
Oh ya, and he also accused her of "cheap songwriting." Ouch.
