Passage West is a love story, but also deals Irish struggles with Poverty, hunger, famine and emigration...in search of a better life. It tells the story of a couples agonizing decision of whether to leave home, the place they love, or, to join the hundreds of thousands of Irish people that had to emigrate from Ireland in the 1800's

As always with John's music the language is colurful and descriptive and conjures in the mind perfectly, what Passage West would have looked like in the 1800's The last town many Irish people would ever see as they board ships to take them to "Far off harbors across the sea"
