Description
The story of this song is sad in many ways. Queen Kapi'olani composed this song when her King Kalakaua was visiting California. Alas King died there and never heard this lovely love song. The song has two melodies: first King's and then Queen's; these melodies are often sung as duet. It is told that Honolulu harbor was full of people singing this song when King's body was brought home. Sadly after some years also Hawaiian Kingdom was gone as US forces took over the regime by force. My heart is with Hawaiian people!
