Kanakadhara Stotram is a Stotram or hymn of praise of Goddess Lakshmi. Kanakadhara means stream of gold and the hymn is called by this name since legend has it that when Adi Sankara recited it, Goddess Lakshmi appeared in front of him and unleashed a stream of gold. The hymn contains a description of the beauty, personality, power and graciousness of Goddess Lakshmi. Sankara does not distinguish between the three Goddesses of Hinduism. For him Lakshmi, Parvati and Saraswati are the same.
Durga is the principal form of the Mother Goddess in Hinduism who is the root cause of creation, sustenance and annihilation. The name ‘Durga’ in Sanskrit means ‘invincible’. When the Demonic forces create imbalance, all the Gods unite to one Divine force called Shakti or Durga or Mahishasurmardini, to abolish all evil. Goddess Durga, hence, rose to power and killed the dangerous demon Mahish and all his great commanders. Chanting Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram helps to invoke the divine Mother to come and destroy all of our negativity within us. This sacred and beautiful stotram has the power to destroy all the negativity residing within us.
