Redemption and Damnation. Fate and Destiny. As the music begins, we enter the world of Don Giovanni, a man of wealth and nobility, a serial womanizer who lives life as he pleases. Yet, as the music develops, we witness Don Giovanni transported into modern-day Salzburg, where he is confronted with the spectre of Il Commendatore and Hofmannsthal's Jedermann at every turn. Flashes of conscience remind him of the eternal questions of fate and death. Are there indeed consequences for our actions? It is precisely this ponderance that flows through the mind of pianist Katie Mahan as she brings the title character of Mozart’s dramatic opera Don Giovanni, K. 527 to life in her solo piano arrangement of the Overture, part of her latest project “Mozart Live on Spirio" for the Steinway & Sons label.
