Description
I'D KNOW YOU ANYWHERE
Around about the time I began writing for the new album, I started to notice that my brain - never the most reliable of creatures - was beginning to act out in a calvalcade of new and unseemly ways.
I suddenly found myself struggling with words, which, for me, was deeply confusing. I became more than usually forgetful. For the first time in my life, spelling became a challenge.
Obviously, as with most things lately, I put it down, at first, to age. But then I was reminded that we of the bipolar persuasion are prone to other cognitive hurdles and I was faced with the very real possibility that the thing I relied on most - my ability to communicate - might be on its way out, warranty expired.
As it happens, a few medication tweaks have eased the symptoms and, for the moment, I blunder on.
At the time, however, I went back and forth on the benefits of forgetting. There are people and places I wouldn't want to vanish into the fog. There are, of course, others that haunt me and that I have occasionally wished I could scrub from the hippocampus with a wire brush.
I wrote this song knowing I might not always live up to its claims. And, on some days, worrying that I might.
