Description
One of the greatest classics of Italian song of all time, "Lacreme Napulitane" is the faithful portrait of the physical and emotional conditions of the Italian immigrant (notably, the Neapolitan) in America in search of a better life in post-war period, becoming very popular.
First performed by Gennaro Pasquariello in 1925 and written in the form of a "letter to the mother" by Libero Bovio and Francesco Bongiovanni, the song tells the story of a Neapolitan who's alone for some time abroad, expressing all the bitterness and longing for home and family, especially as Christmas approaches.
Bovio & Bongiovanni knew how to express with precision, and delicacy at the same time, the feelings of an immigrant, and, almost a century later, the piece is very up-to-date.
Over time, "Lacreme Napulitane" could be heard in the voices of the main artists all over the world, including our dear Scugnizzo, who gave his interpretation in his recital (and later album) " 'O surdato 'nnammurato".
