Recently discovered the song “Como Nossos Pais” and fell in love with it. The original is written by Belchoir in Portuguese and my first introduction was through a performance by Elis Regina and a full band. Until that point, I never had a song make me cry (literally) the way this song did. It was an emotional experience for me to hear it every single time. I had no idea what it was saying and I really wanted to translate it into an English version to learn the message of this song which had such a hold onto my soul. Once I did I fell in love with the song even more. While working the words I had to take some artistic license to try and capture the poeticism of the original lyrics and keep with the structure of rhyme in the song as I heard it and tried my very best to do it justice. It is truly a gorgeous song and I really truly love the words of this song along with the melody and hope you enjoy it as well. 🙏

Again this is not an exactly literal translation as I wanted to try to keep the beats and rhythm of the words as much as possible so i did a little of my own interpretation.
