✔ What does Arirang mean?

Arirang's "ari" is an old word meaning "Goun(Beautiful), and "rang" can be seen as referring to Nim(Dear).

Traces of "Ari" being used to mean beautiful in old Korean word can be found in "Ari + Dhaun" in modern Korean word.

In view of this fact, the first meaning of "Arirang" is beautiful dear.

However, several theories have been raised about the establishment of Arirang.

✔ What is Arirang Pass?

There are many theories about "Arirang Pass" in Korea, too.

Maybe because 70% of Korea is mountainous, there are many stories of sadness and sorrow on each hill.

In Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, there are two passes that contain the heartbreaking history of frustration and trials in our people's lives.

Arirang Pass and Miari Pass, the northern gateway to Seoul, were both steep hills.

Arirang Pass is a 15m wide and 1450m long road name that passes Dongseon-dong from Exit 6 of Sungshin Women's University Station on Subway Line 4, passes Arirang Market, and crosses Jeongneung-dong Road in Seoul.

Arirang Pass is the only road in Seoul called Pass, not a road.

The first origin of Arirang Pass was 1935, during the Japanese colonial period, and the second theory is that the song name of folk song Arirang was used as a name for a high-end restaurant, and Chunsa Naungyu filmed the movie Arirang, which depicts the national spirit of resistance to Japan.

However, Arirang Pass will not be the only pass with a specific name that exists in this particular space.

According to the theory related to this pass, the Korean people's desire to find a country during the Japanese colonial period was called Arirang, and it would have continued to this day.

The division and war that came right after the end of colonial rule are another Arirang pass for our Koreans.

Arirang Pass will be a hardship for everyone living in Korean history.

The pain of Goryeo people who had to go to Central Asia by forced migration train in the past is called Karaski Arirang, and the road ahead of the rough lives of overseas immigrants from Hawaii to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico is called Coreano Arirang.

Arirang Pass is a Korean people's work that encompasses time and space beyond modern and contemporary history at home and abroad.
