Description
The 'Coventry Carol' is the second of three songs included in the Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors, one of the Coventry Mystery Plays, which were performed in Coventry from at least 1392. The earliest surviving text is by Robert Croo in 1534.
The tune was written in 1591 by Thomas Mawdyke, though he may simply have been transcribing an earlier melody.
This version is performed by the Huddersfield Choral Society.
