Description
Sodium hydroxide lye, in my homemade soap?! It’s more likely than you think! You might be worried about using a bar of soap after seeing lye listed as one of the ingredients, but lye is a necessary ingredient in the production of natural soaps. Lye allows the oils, fats, and butters used in the soap to go through a reaction called saponification. Once the reaction occurs, only the salts of the fatty acids and water remain, as well as any extra oils that did not get saponified. No lye is present in the finished soap!
