Description
July 27, 1986 - one hell of a comedown after the Milton Keynes Bowl gig just a month previous!
"Soap Aid" at the St Helens Rugby League ground was a totally bizarre day, with the casts of Coronation Street, Emmerdale Farm, Brookside, and err Grange Hill appearing. There were also appearances by The Merseybeats, The Icicle Works & of course Marillion.
At one point Fish had to stop the show as there was a brawl in the crowd (during Garden Party if I remember), and he had a right go at them. They then tore through the rest of the set like a band possessed. And Ian McNabb from the Icicle Works got a black eye for trying to barge past a bouncer at the after show - it made the front page in the red tops newspapers the next day.
I posted this video on Fish's FB group and he replied saying he remembered it well, especially the pissed up celebs after the show!
Recorded onto VHS from the Ch4 rebroadcast of the event a week after the show
(Full setlist: Freaks/Kayleigh/Lavender/Bitter Suite/Heart of Lothian/Garden Party/Market Square Heroes)
