🚀 Hidden Ice on Mars Revealed by Impact Craters! ❄️🔴
For over two decades, NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has been scanning the Red Planet, discovering hundreds of new impact craters. But some of these craters reveal something astonishing—buried water-ice hidden beneath the Martian surface!
One such crater in Arcadia Planitia, measuring 13 meters (43 feet) in diameter, exposed bright ice deposits both inside the crater and scattered in its ejecta—chunks of ice thrown outward by the impact. A dark blast zone extends half a mile from the center, marking the crater’s violent formation.
This discovery is more than just a geological curiosity—it helps scientists track the sublimation of ice over time, providing crucial insights into Mars’ climate, ice stability, and the conditions under which this water was originally deposited. Could this hidden ice one day support human missions to Mars?
