Iain Matthews (born Iain Matthew McDonald, Ian Matthews, Ian Matthews) is an English musician and composer. In the 60s he was known as Ian McDonald , then (until 1989) - as Ian Matthews , and later - as Iain Matthews . Something from the song: "Whatever you call a boat, so it will float ...". In the beginning (1966-1967) he created the surf trio The Pyramid (they had a single). Then he became the male vocalist of Fairport Convention, where he sang a duet with Judy Dyble, and then with Sandy Denny (on the first album - in 1968 as Ian McDonald, on the second in 1969 already as Ian Matthews). Matthews has always been a supporter of the music of the American West Coast (West Coast folk-rock and country rock), and Fairport Convention, gradually discarding American influences (noticeable in their early works), began to rethink English folklore - in elegant arrangements, skillfully combining acoustics and electric instruments. And Matthews left in 1969 because of his disagreement with the new direction. In the same year, he released a solo ( in fact) album Matthews' Southern Comfortfeaturing guitarists Richard Thompson and Simon Nicol, bassist Ashley Hutchings (all from Fairport Convention), drummer Gerry Conway (from Fotheringay) and pedal steel guitarist Gordon Huntley. In the future, the group, called Matthews' Southern Comfort , constantly changed line-up and released 2 more albums - Second Spring (1969) and Later That Same Year (1970)
