Topic Outline
“We all have moments feeling blue”
We all have a lot of situations to manage in our lives, and the associated emotions that come with them, and children are no different. Although this song can be applied to many situations it was written in response to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 which turned many of our lives upside-down with lockdowns, restrictions and bereavements. This was undoubtedly a difficult experience for adults and children alike. This song encourages us to recognise and accept how we are feeling and acknowledges the importance of sharing our feelings, whether they are good or bad, with someone we know and trust; “It’s OK if you’re not feeling OK”.
CHILDLINE INFORMATION:
If young people are feeling they need to talk with someone, then Childline is there for them to talk to about anything at all. They can talk to a counsellor on the phone on 0800 1111 (that number is free and also doesn’t require any credit should someone have their own phone). The under 12s section (https://www.childline.org.uk/?in_type=under12service) of the website talks about all the different ways a young person can contact a counsellor. On that site, the art box (https://www.childline.org.uk/toolbox/art-box/?in_type=under12service) can help a young person to express how they feel – they can write about or draw their feelings. The calm zone (https://www.childline.org.uk/toolbox/calm-zone/?in_type=under12service) lets young people try different activities such as breathing exercises, games and watching videos to help them to feel calmer. Then there is the Buddy Zone (https://www.childline.org.uk/toolbox/buddy-zone/?in_type=under12service), this page acts as a kind of introductory guide around the under 12s site.
