Description
There has been a lot of new intel regarding this song as it has been played live in their most recent tour, and the videos showed that the old tab was wrong in many ways:
1) The main riff is just a hammer on on the 7th string, no bendings and no 8th string used. This is still very weird to me as the in the album track it really sounds like a gradual bend rather than a hammer on and also the tone is a lot darker compared to the riff in the middle which is played in the same position, which made me think 8th string as it has inherently a darker sound. With The Abysmal Eye Meshuggah have shown adaptability in playing stuff in a different way live (even in different tunings!) for convenience/personal preference, so maybe this is another case of that?
2) The bass uses the good old tuning of drop a#, and the final riff uses a smart "inverted chord" compared to the guitar, where they play the same notes but with one of the notes in a different octave. I am not certain about this part as I did not find a good enough footage of Dick playing it this way, but with no low F on the bass it pretty much has to be this way. It could also be a single B note, but Dick does the same thing on Broken Cog and there's proof of that (I will also provide an update to it later!)
So to recap:
Guitar tuning: 8 string F standard (as always no high Eb because I'm an idiot who refuses to update to more recent software which allows it)
Bass tuning: A# F A# D# G# (the same they always used)
