Description
This particular hymn dedicated to the Virgin Mairy is called the "Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos" or simply "The Akathist". It is an important service in the Orthodox Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
These hymns are primarily chanted during Great Lent, before Easter. They are sung on Friday evening (or Saturday morning) of the fifth week of Lent, but also on other occasions during the year, such as in pilgrimages to honor the Virgin Mary or during acts of faith and reverence toward her.
The hymn consists of 24 verses and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary as the "Mother of God," with repeated "Rejoice" in each verse, expressing the faithful's honor and gratitude towards her.
The Protopsaltis (lead cantor) of the Church of the Annunciation of Tinos, Konstantinos Kantanis, chants. The priest Antonios Stathopoulos proclaims.
