I am fortunate enough to be continuing my journey through Italy, and this time in the beautiful province of Tuscany. I felt that this particular passionate and romantic classical guitar piece matches well with the beautiful scenery (and lovely red wine!) on offer from this delightful region.

Milonga is probably the best-known work of the Argentine guitarist and composer Jorge Cardoso, and has become a popular addition to modern classical guitar repertoire.

A Milonga is a lyrical minstrel song with lyrics that tells stories about real or imaginary historical events. Over time, dance steps and other musical influences were added to the Milonga, eventually giving rise to the Tango.

Milonga music pre-dates Argentinian tango, but eventually became apart of tango culture, and are often played at ‘Milongas’ (not to confuse(!)- but the word Milonga has a double meaning - often also referring to a social event or location for a tango dancing (ie a Tango Party)).
