Moreno Veloso is in the vanguard of the new generation of Brazilian singers and composers. While only in his late twenties, he has many years of touring experience under his belt. He has performed with Gilberto Gil, and Carlinhos Brown, as well as with his father, Caetano Veloso, one of Brazil’s most important singers and a founding father of Tropicalismo. His father was very influential in Moreno’s musical development. Caetano started teaching him songs when he was a toddler, and by the age of nine he was contributing lyrics to his father’s songs. Moreno + 2 brings together Moreno on guitar and vocals, Alexandre Kassin on electric bass and Domenico Lancelloti on electronic drums and percussion. Like other leaders of the new Brazilian sound, Moreno takes the parts of Brazilian music he knows and loves and weaves those sounds with the noises of a new millennium.

"Deusa do Amor (Goddess of Love)" was popularized by Olodum, a group from Bahia dominated by uptempo percussion and driving rhythms. While usually performed as a rousing carnival piece, Moreno Veloso’s version is a suave bossa nova that reveals the rich melody and poetic lyrics of what is otherwise a party song. The first part of the song is a straightforward grouping of vocals, guitar, bass and light percussion. By the end the group reveals their quirkiness, throwing in toy piano, iron shovel, a bass that is intentionally tuned sharp, muted trumpet, and sandpaper scrapers. "Everything becomes more beautiful when you are beside me / You made me delirious, so I confess / Your kisses burn / When you’re close to me my body feels it / Your kisses burn / Come here goddess of love."
