For over a decade now, it’s been a part of my friendship with my bandmate Greg to go do something out in nature, hunting, hiking, camping, fishing etc. One of our favorite things to do, on and off tour, is to find a good river. The pattern is usually the same: Greg breaks out his fly fishing gear and majestically re-enacts A River Runs Through It, while I kick back with my favorite book and pipe, taking it all in before we go play a show. It has brought me much joy and peace over the years.

This video is a tribute to my friend, Greg, and my (in this case, literal) camera-lens perspective of that experience. It was also inspired by one of my favorite Hemingway short stories, “Big Two-Hearted River,” in which a veteran comes home from war, steps off a train and begins to process his experiences via a fly fishing trip. If you know the story, much of it is there, down to the onion sandwich.
