This song is about gambling. Here’s a fun story.

One time when we were on tour, we had a show outside Reno, NV.
After the show, we went back to the Hotel Casino we stayed in, and all met to gamble. Then, we all got to talking about doing something crazy. So we decided to go for it.

Our tour manager Tommy Rat took our merch money from that night and put it all on black. The roulette dealer spun the wheel, and … we doubled our money!!! Amazing!! Let’s go home!
But we didn’t leave. So now we had some money to play with.

We let all the money ride with Tommy. He sat down to play blackjack, starting out playing a small ante per hand. His theory was you can’t lose if you always double your bet as long as you eventually win one.

So he starts small. $5. gone.
$10. gone. now 20,40,80,160
and we’re all getting a little nervous.
$320, $640, $1280
and now we’re all starting to sweat.

He just kept on losing and doubling his bet! My eyes are bugging! How does the dealer keep winning!?

$2,560. It’s getting harder to do the math, but if he could just win one hand can make all of the money back!

$5,120. He turns to us, “ What do you guys think?

“Go for it!” If you lose this one, we’re done.

He loses the hand. And we lost it all.
But we all walked away, having learned a valuable lesson. Nothing is foolproof!

P.S. The next time we played Las Vegas, NV (a fancier, bigger Reno), we took even more merch money after the show and put it all on black and won again!! This time we stopped there and celebrated the rest of the night!
