Description
Written by New Orleans native, Sidney Simien, he recorded the song under the title, My Toot Toot and it became a big hit on the Zydeco recording scene in New Orleans. Because it was such a local success, New Orleans producer, Isaac Bolden, decided to record a cover version of the song and it was released on the Mirage label, sung by Jean Knight. Malaco thought they had a leasing deal to distribute the Knight version but at the last second, Bolden cut a deal with Atlantic for national distribution of Knight's version. Upset that their handshake deal had fallen apart, Malaco quickly recorded a version by Denise LaSalle, which they renamed, My Tu-Tu. My Tu-Tu would become Denise LaSalle's biggest selling hit during her time at Malaco when the single entered the Billboard chart in June of 1985 and peaked at #79.
