Esta canción trata sobre la revisión de los recuerdos, perdidos y olvidados, de la infancia de la banda en Hanna, Alberta. La letra es una crónica de hechos reales e que el cantante principal Chad Kroeger recordó mientras la escribía.

Hablando con CBC, Kroeger explicó: "Es solo nostalgia, crecer en un pueblo pequeño y no puedes volver a tu infancia. Decir adiós a los amigos de los que te has alejado, donde creciste, donde te fuiste a la escuela, con quién salías y las cosas tontas que solías hacer cuando eras niño, el primer amor, todas esas cosas. Todos tienen uno o dos de esos recuerdos que les gustan, así que esta canción es realmente solo el puente por todo eso".
El video fue dirigido por Nigel Dick, quien dirigió el primer video de Britney Spears, " Baby One More Time ". Fue filmado en la ciudad natal de la banda, Hanna, mientras la banda vuelve a visitar sus antiguos terrenos.

"Fue genial porque no habíamos vuelto a Hanna en mucho tiempo", dijo Kroeger a American Songwriter . 'También fue triste al mismo tiempo ver. En 'Photograph', estoy hablando de que el cine ya no estaba y todo eso, y efectivamente, llegamos allí y ya no estaba. "Nuestro director, Nigel Dick, había aparecido dos días antes y comenzó a capturar a todas estas personas de la ciudad y a filmarlas", continuó. "No vi nada de eso hasta que obtuve el primer corte del video". Estoy como, 'Conozco a esos humanos'".
La fotografía que Kroeger sostiene en el video es la que inspiró la canción: es una foto de él y su productor, Joey Moi, en una fiesta de Nochevieja. En cuanto a lo que hay en la cabeza de Joey, es un enfriador de champán, ya que estaban disfrutando de unas bebidas esa noche.

Chad Kroeger canta sobre irrumpir en su escuela secundaria. Cuando NME le preguntó cuántas veces lo hizo, respondió: "Bueno, digo que lo hice media docena de veces, pero me acusaron de 11 cargos de allanamiento de morada... aunque no rimaba". eso, pausa, 11 veces' no encaja tan bien como media docena".

La banda tenía un nuevo baterista para esta canción. Daniel Adair, antes de 3 Doors Down, reemplazó a Ryan "Nik" Vikedal.
