Description
Three small elegies by Nikolai Zhilyayev (1881-1938), a Russian musicologist, teacher, critic and composer.
Zhilyayev graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1905 and was a close friend of Alexander Scriabin who studied and taught there as well until 1904, making it perhaps not entirely coincidental that these pieces show distinct similarities to early Scriabin. These beautiful elegiac melodies opus 3 were published in 1904 and perfectly convey a bleak and sombre atmosphere with the final piece having a slightly more sweet and melancholic feeling.
Timestamps for each of the three pieces are:
0:00 I. Sostenuto (C minor)
3:03 II. Andantino (G minor)
4:58 III. Piacevole (F-sharp major)
All my videos are live recordings of me playing on a Casio Celviano Grand Hybrid GP-500.
The use of headphones is recommended for a better listening experience.
Please note I am not a professional pianist and I record and make these videos in my spare time for fun, as I greatly enjoy playing and exploring the vast repertoire of lesser known piano composers throughout history. The purpose of this channel is not to show off my piano skills (or lack thereof), rather it is to showcase unknown composers and hopefully give them more recognition. Comments are always welcome, and consider subscribing to the channel if you like more similar videos.
Thanks for watching!
