Also called "The Water is Wide", this is a traditional folk tune, probably of Scottish or English origin. The words "O Waly Waly" translate as "woe is me". There have been several sad ballads set to this tune. There are five or six hymns set to this melody. Benjamin Britten made a very famous arrangement of the tune for voice and piano.
