Special Event: Glastonbury Festival ‘95
This is the first circulating show of the Morning Glory Tour and second overall, and their first circulating with brand new drummer Alan White, replacing Tony following the Definitely Maybe Tour. Tonight the lads have returned to Glastonbury, and this time they are headlining the Pyramid Stage, an obvious sign which showed that Oasis had conquered the U.K. and would be the first of a flurry of festival gigs throughout Europe. It is also Bonehead’s birthday, and there’s some nice banter and cheering before I Am The Walrus from the footage of this show, which adds to what is already an electric performance. Many songs from the Definitely Maybe era are dropped and make way for brand new songs such as The Swamp Song, Hello, Roll With It and Morning Glory. Morning Glory is the most interesting of these, as it features Liam attempting the “well”s throughout the song to varying degrees of success. After these festival gigs Noel would take them over as Liam couldn’t seem to cut it well enough. I do find it a shame Headshrinker wasn’t kept for these festival shows however.
Don’t Look Back in Anger is also played here, this time with the full band and though Noel is still getting used to singing it, the song would become a crowd pleaser in years to come. The band are red hot for the Glastonbury crowd. Alan does well with the new material and shows that he is a great drummer right from the get-go. The rest of the band too are in fine form, with Liam sounding excellent on the vocal front, and tonight is really the beginning of when the power and growl he puts into his voice start’s to really come into it’s own, and this tour is arguably his most consistent one with Oasis. Some stand-out performances include Roll With It, Slide Away and Morning Glory too. Overall, this is a very recommended show to listen to, as it’s one of Oasis’ most fiery performances from back to front.
(The majority of this merge was The Thieving Magpie’s remaster, and uses lots of different sources, however the final two songs on the main show were only available in a lossy format which I have put in myself, and some of the banter between songs, mainly Bonehead’s birthday mention before I Am The Walrus isn’t included, but big thanks to them and the other source uploaders, the full video is below to check out).
