Description

The premiere of Of Petals and Fire at the Providence Fringe Festival
Choreography by Ava D'Eon
Premiered July 2025

Program:
Save Your Apologies Until The End
Dancers: Annabelle Aber, Ava D’Eon, and Olivia Swink
Music: Johdin by Pan Sonic, Airport Love Theme by Alfred Newman, Petite Fleur by Franck Pourcel, I’m Sorry by Brenda Lee, and Is That All There Is? by Peggy Lee

A response to society’s expectation for women to always apologize when taking up space or stating an opinion. Utilizing artistic research and personal and shared experiences with the cast, Save Your Apologies Until The End reevaluates and remodels the commonality of the phrase “I’m sorry.”

I Could Be Your Muse If You Let Me (Interlude 1)
*Work-in-progress
Dancer: Hannah Brown
Music: Low Love - feat Sofie Royer by Eli Keszler

This work grapples with the tension between self-expression and societal expectation, embodying the shapeshifting performed under the weight of the male gaze and the pursuit of acceptance. Through articulate movement and intimate internal focus, it asks: when does confidence become performance, and what remains when we strip away the act?

Held and Poured (Steeped)
Dancers: Eliza Abrams, Julia Bresee, Samantha Claussen, Libby Danielson, Ava D’Eon, Sydney Dietz, and Jasmine Karaul
Music: Arabesque 3 by Harold Budd, At Last by Etta James, retire (final) by Alvedon, and Redwood Resonance by Dianna Lopez

The movement embodies the metaphor of a tea bag to explore the social norms women must navigate when expressing themselves in various settings. The dancers reflect on what it means to be contained in their authenticity versus when they can expand and flourish, much like tea leaves unfurling in water.

What Rises In Her Wake
*Work-in-progress
Choreography in collaboration with the dancers
Dancers: Eliza Abrams, Julia Bresee, Samantha Claussen, Libby Danielson, Sydney Dietz, Emma Frank, Jasmine Karaul, and Bridget Nicolo
Music: Stuck in Pause by Astrid Sonne, The Grotto by Patricia Wolf, and there is always a girl with a secret by Mira Calix

Rooted in the inherited strength of those who came before, this piece explores the interplay between feral freedom and learned restraint, asking how wildness can be reclaimed without losing oneself. Through instinctual movement, sudden shifts, and a collective echo of “mother,” it examines how knowledge is passed, adapted, and embodied across generations.
