Commissioned by Opera America and premiered and recorded by soprano Brenda Feliciano and pianist Pablo Zinger,  “Ode to the Promised Land”, with lyrics by Cuban-American poet Alexis Romay is our soulful tribute to the contribution of millions of emigrants from all over the world to the culture and economy of our wonderful country of adoption.

but what matters is where I am now.

I came to you with thirsty hands,
and empty pockets and a dream:
reaching your shores,
touching your ground,
setting my wet feet on your soil.

You welcomed me with open arms,
and for once I truly felt free.
And the sensation was so toxic,
that I could barely breathe.

You put a sky above my head
with endless possibilities.
I will find the roof, I will pave my path.
As long as I shall be with you,
I'll fear no harm.
