PLEASE BE MINE, The Four-Evers, Smash #1887 1964
Flipside: IF I WERE A MAGICIAN – Here is another really great up-tempo song from my music collection. The Four-Evers hailed from Brooklyn, New York. (Gee, where have I heard that before, “a singing group hailed from Brooklyn, New York”.) LOL.
The Four-Evers were formed when 2 members from The Paladians (Joe DiBenedetto and Nick Zagami) and 2 members from The Vocal Lords (Steve Tudanger and John Cipriani) combined to form the new quartet.
They landed a recording contract at Columbia Records and a management deal with Al Kasha, who produced their first single, "YOU BELONG TO ME" (Columbia #42303) 1962 (an up-tempo version of this classic song). While at Columbia the Four-Evers also sang background on 45’s by Bob Halley, Gene Montgomery and Billy Casher (alias Al Kasha himself).
In 1963 Kasha introduced the group to Bob Crewe, who took the guys under his wing and secured them a new deal with Smash Records. Crewe linked the group with songwriter Bob Gaudio (of the Four Seasons), who produced their smash debut, "LOVER COME BACK TO ME" (Smash #1853).
“PLEASE BE MINE” was 2nd pressed as “BE MY GIRL” and charted nationally on Billboard in June 1964 for 4 weeks and reached #75. What is really amazing is that the words “PLEASE BE MINE” in this 1st press upload of “PLEASE BE MINE” are never used in the song!
Please note: There was also another vocal group from Philadephia, PA. that recorded as The Four-Evers for Jamie Records!
Enjoy this really great up-tempo song “PLEASE BE MINE”-”BE MY GIRL” by The Four-Evers written by original Four Seasons’ group member Bob Gaudio.
