It was a cold and frosty morning in December,
with all of me money it wasspent,
And What day it was I hardly can remember,
so I round to the shipping office went.

Oh Paddy lay back, (oh paddy lay back)
Take in your slack, (take in your slack)
Take a turn around the capstan, haul away (Haul Away!)
Round ships stations boys, be handy
For we're bound for Valparaiso, round the Horn.

That day there was a great demand for sailors,
For the Colonies Frisco and for France
So I shipped aboard a liner named the Hotspur,
And got paralytic drunk on my advance.

Now some of us fellows we had been drinking,
And me myself was heavy on the booze
So I sat upon me old sea chest athinking,
And I'll just turn in and have meself a snooze

Well I woke up in the morning sick an' sober,
And I knew i was on me way again
When i heard the mate a kick'in in me door now,
get up ya devils an' answer to yer name

Well I wish that I at the Jolly Sailor,
Along with Irish Molly drinking beer (drinking beer?!)
And I thought what a jolly lot are sailors,
And with me flippers I wiped away a tear.
