Description
-History:
Burgundy is a former medieval state that lasted several centuries. Philip the Bold, the youngest son of French King John II, was granted the Duchy of Burgundy back in 1363. Through strategic marriages, inheritance, and purchases, the Burgundian dukes expanded their domains to include wealthy regions like Flanders, Brabant, Holland, and Luxembourg.
The burgundians were well known for their lavish festivities, and had a cultural impact on the rest of Europe. These festivities/ parties were status symbols, mostly to impress the dukes of it's decentralised state. They were held to show how rich and powerful the Burgundian realm was.
Back in it's prime time, Burgundian wines were one of the most prestigious wines in Europe. They also served as a powerfull bufferstate between the Holy Roman Empire and France.
Several references were made in this song. It is mostly about the Burgundian wars. These wars were conflicts that unltimately lead the the destruction of the Burgundian realm, and resulted in it being split between the French and the Habsburg rulers of Europe, around the end of the 15th century.
