Description
Better known now as a big hit for Elvis in 1965.
Artie Glenn wrote this and it was recorded by his teenage son Darrell as a demo, after a number of disappointments Valley publishers agreed to release the demo however it was thought to be too long and the piano break was edited out. It reached #6 in the US chart.
Glenn would write 'Indescribably Blue' for Elvis in 1967.
Country singer and screen star Rex Allen covered it along with many others, he reached #8, June Valli had a #4 hit, the most successful version. Ella reached #15 and Art Lund took his version to #23.
In the UK Lee Lawrence had the only charting version reaching #7.
Rex was already known as a singing cowboy as Republic Pictures answer to Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, however his film career started much later in 1950 though he did make 19 films.
As the western genre faded in the 50's Rex took to tv though his success on screen was limited however his voice proved to be his fortune, he narrated many of Walt Disney's wildlife and tv shows, his is the voice you hear on the original version of 'The Incredible Journey'.
