Description
One of many recordings of this aria from "The Immortal Hour." This one, however has a direct link to the composer and his Glastonbury Festivals and so is quite significant.
Arthur Jordan (1866-1955) was born in Dudley in the West Midlands. He started out as a baritone singing with the Dudley opera company. However in 1910 he studied with Boughton at the Birmingham School Of Music and became a tenor. It can't have been a long time of study however as Boughton was obliged to leave his teaching post in 1911 owing to parental complaints about his chaotic private life around that time.
Jordan appears to have remained a favorite singer of Boughton's as he was to have significant roles in operas like "The Birth of Arthur" (1913 in Bournemouth) "The Immortal Hour (Midir c.1914)" "The Round Table"(1916) and finally "Alkestis" (1922) all at Glastonbury.
