Description
-History:
Säkkijärven polkka is a finnish-karelian folk song. The song was first sang around the end of the 19th century, when it didn't have a specific name yet. From there it caught on in the repertoire of many accordion players of that time. During the Continuation war, the finns listened to this song about finnish Karelia/Säkkijärven wich is nowadays part of the Leningrad oblast in russia. It is one of the most well known traditional finish songs. There are many versions, both instrumental, old, new and alternative.
The map is based on what could be considered "Greater Finland". The areas represented are the northern sami areas of Norway and Sweden, the kola peninsula, all of Karelia, the Leningrad Oblast and Estonia. These areas can all be considered the homeland of Finnis Cultures, dialects and overall Uralic subcultures.
