“Salut” is a song by Hélène Ségara & Joe Dassin. Joe Dassin (1938-1980) performed it in 1975. Fortunately, Hélène Ségara, a brilliant French singer gave the song a new life and Joe Dassin a new look. Joe Dassin, a French - American singer was not only popular in France, but also in the "Eastern bloc" in the 70s and 80s. He was surprisingly a best-selling singer in the Soviet Union in 1988, eight years after his untimely death in 1980, and with only two LPs issued there. A brilliant and sophisticated man, he got both a BA and MA in Anthropology the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and prior he worked as a film technician for his father. Incidentally, his father, a noted American film director and producer Jules Dassin was born in Middletown, CT, a son of emigrants from Odessa.
