Description
One of the many idle experiments which characterize my life in general, here's a brief mashup of two performances of the final song in Franz Schubert's song cycle "Die Winterreise". It takes a bit to really start "working", but I thought the outcome was fairly interesting in an uncanny and pandiatonic sort of way. Because of the differences in pacing, Stutzmann's voice sometimes accompanies and sometimes answers Quasthoff's. Because of the few glacial swaying harmonies which Schubert employs to such great effect in this piece, the two pianos manage to sort of work together like a sad & misty opium dream and without sounding like a total clambake.
If I had the time, I'd re-kajigger it to work a bit better in a different way, but, really, why bother now? I already have satisfactory data from the first experiment. As Frank Zappa discovered: Xenochrony is sometimes worthwhile.....
