The Rudrashtakam is an ashtakam or octet (a prayer with eight rhyming verses) dedicated to the manifestation of Shiva, composed by Sri Goswami Tulsidas. Rudra is considered as the fearsome manifestation of Shiva who is to be feared.This eightfold hymn of praise was sung to please Shankara. Lord Shiva will be pleased with whomever heartfully recites it.

श्रीरामचरितमानस में लिखित 'शिव रुद्राष्टकम' ( shiv rudrashtakam ) अपने-आप में अद्भुत स्तुति है। अगर कोई भक्त विनय पूर्वक श्रीरामचरितमानस में वर्णित इस स्तुति का पाठ करता है तो शिव जी उससे प्रसन्न हो अपने भक्त को सभी मनोकामना पूरी करने के साथ हर कार्य में विजयी होने का आशीर्वाद भी देते हैं। श्रीरामचरितमानस में लंका विजय से पूर्व भगवान श्रीराम ने शिवजी की 'रुद्राष्टकम' (Rudrashtakam) स्तुति का पाठ किया था और रावन पर विजयश्री प्राप्त की थी। अगर किसी के जीवन में परेशानियां है या कोई शत्रु परेशान कर रहा हो तो इस स्तुति का पाठ करने के बाद मिलने वाला शुभफल किसी चमत्कार से कम नहीं होता। इसका पाठ करते समय भावमग्न होकर भगवान शंकर से मन ही मन अपनी कामना को पूरी होने का निवेदन भी करते है। श्रद्धापूर्वक की गई थोड़ी सी प्रार्थना से शीघ्र प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं भगवान शिवजी।
