Description
Real Book Drumming is a YouTube series of mine in which I transcribe and play choruses of songs from the Real Book, the bible for all jazz players. In this video, it's the first 76 measures of the track "Sidewinder" from trumpeter Lee Morgan's 1964 album The Sidewinder, recorded on December 21, 1963 at the Rudy Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, New Jersey.
"Sidewinder," the title track of the album, is one of the style-defining pieces of soul jazz and has become a much-played jazz standard. The feel of the song moves somewhere between even and ternary eighth notes. Still, it's worth a try for advanced beginners to tackle "The Sidewinder," because the ride pattern and the ever-repeating snare drum make life a little easier for the player.
As with my other drum covers, I try to stay as original as possible to the studio recording in terms of playing.
The sheet music is available for free download to subscribers of my site www.deinschlagzeuglehrer.de. The transcription is written with the Finale notation program. 🎵
I recorded my drum cover in Ableton Live with two Beyerdynamic MC-930s, a Beyerdynamic TG D50 on the bass drum and a Beyerdynamic M 201 TG on the snare drum. 🎙️
I hope you have fun watching and listening and then checking out and playing yourselves.
Thanks a million for your support. Feel free to leave a like and subscribe to my channel and sharing my drum cover is of course explicitly allowed. 🥰
