Description
The instrument presented here is a bot d'aran - a Pyrenean folk instrument. It is a bagpipe, but unlike most modern bagpipes, it has no drone - just a chanter with a single reed inside. It makes a very sweet sound though it has a limited range of notes.
The tune comes from the Cantigas de Santa Maria - an astonishing collection of over 400 songs dating from the mid to late 13th century.
