Sounds of Hawaii at Night | The Coqui Frog Takeover

Hawaii’s nights are filled with a sound you can’t ignore — the piercing call of the invasive Coqui frog. Loved by some and loathed by others, this tiny amphibian has transformed the islands’ nighttime soundscape.

Recorded in 2022 during my visit to the Big Island, these frogs were a surprise to hear as soon as I arrived. I set up my recorder in a semi-rural garden and captured their constant, high-pitched chirps.
