Description

Susan Kay Quattrocchi chose Suzi Quatro for her stage name and was born June 3, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan. Her father Art, worked for General Motors and her mother Helen was a housewife looking after Arlene, Patti and Michael for a total of four kids.

Patti joined Fanny, a groundbreaking all female rock group that gained national attention, Michael became a progressive rocker using his keyboard skills and Arlene became the mother of actress Sherilyn Fenn.

The first time she saw Elvis on TV she was six and was so impressed with him that she decided to pursue music citing Billie Holiday as an inspiration. She could already play the drums for her father's Art Quatro Trio a jazz ensemble.

She was signed to Mickie Most's RAK Records in 1971 and had success in Europe with it. Most introduced her to Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman who were experiencing success in the glam rock arena with Sweet. Her career blossomed overseas but still had to catch the attention of the American public.

Chapman arranged for Suzi to record a duet with Chris Norman, ex vocalist of Smokie called "Stumblin' In" a mellow rock tune that peaked at #4 on the Hot100. It became her biggest and only hit in the US and was unable to maintain the momentum, but has remained active recording various songs since then.

Quatro also dabbled in acting and was hired to portray Leather Tuscdero a foil for The Fonz on "Happy Days". She played the sister of hot rodder Pinky Tuscadero, and had a rock band. TV producer Garry Marshall offered her a Leather Tuscadero spin off, but Quatro wisely declined the generous offer as she felt it would be counterproductive to her career.

She is still rocking it out at age 70 today and is still relevant. In 2019 the documentary "Suzi Q" premiered in Australia to great success. The director Liam Firmager was chosen as he was not a fan and would provide a balanced telling of her story, warts and all.
