Description
红(hóng)豆(dòu)symbolize longing, becoming popular after the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties (220-589). Produced in southern China, 红(hóng)豆(dòu)are bright red, round, and translucent like coral. Furthermore, they ripen in their pods before opening, creating a pod resembling eyes and red beans like tears. Legend has it that an ancient woman, over the death of her husband in a remote borderland, wept beneath a tree and died, transforming into red beans, hence the name "love beans." People in Southern often use 红(hóng)豆(dòu)as ornaments or gifts. Express one’s Yearning isn't limited to romantic relationships; it also encompasses longing between friends.
This poem has another titled "Presented to Li Guinian on the River," Li Guinian, Musicians of the Tang Dynasty Emperor, so here is yearning for a friend.
