As a fan of the game Tetris, I looked forward to seeing Tetris 2023 on Apple TV+. I was captivated by the lovely 80s soundtrack from Korobeiniki, so I decided to cover it on the piano.

'Korobeiniki' (Russian: Коробе́йники, tr. Korobéyniki, IPA: [kərɐˈbʲejnʲɪkʲɪ], lit. 'The Peddlers') is a nineteenth-century Russian folk song that tells the story of a meeting between a peddler and a girl, describing their haggling over goods in a metaphor for courtship. Outside Russia, 'Korobeiniki' is widely known as the Tetris theme tune, from its appearance in Nintendo's Game Boy version of the game (titled 'A-Type') as arranged by the Japanese composer Hirokazu Tanaka in 1989.

Tetris is a 2023 biographical thriller film directed by Jon S. Baird, written by Noah Pink, and starring Taron Egerton, Nikita Efremov, Sofia Lebedeva, Anthony Boyle, Toby Jones and Roger Allam. It is based on true events around the race to license and patent the video game Tetris in the late 1980s during the Cold War. Tetris premiered at the SXSW Film Festival on March 15, 2023, and was released on March 31, 2023 by Apple TV+. The film received positive reviews, with praise to the soundtrack and performances.
