Description
THAT'S THE WAY IT GOES, The Harptones, (Rama #203) 1956
Flipside "THREE WISHES - (This is for harptone55) - It's really hard to imagine, with all the great early songs Willie Winfield and The Harptones recorded, none of them were ever charted nationally on Billboard. The only nationally charted song by them was in 1961 "WHAT WILL I TELL MY HEART" (Companion #103). It charted for 2 weeks and reached #96.
The Harptones were from Harlem and epitomize the harmonies from groups of the early 1950's. It's Willie Winfield's clear projection and satiny delivery as the lead singer that rounds out The Harptones emotional harmonies. The group's backbone was the late Raoul Cita, a true talent in the purest form who has always provided most of their arrangements. The group consisted of Willie Winfield, Nicky Clark, Jimmy Beckum, Bill Galloway, (known as "Dicey") William Dempsey, and Bill Brown.
Raoul Cita is co-writer on "THAT'S THE WAY IT GOES" which happens to be my wife's favorite song by The Harptones. Enjoy.
