Songs:
1. The Forest Of Black 00:00
2. Morning Sun Flower 03:01

Το μυστηριώδες αυτό συγκρότημα, ιδρύθηκε στα μέσα της δεκαετίας του ’60 στο Oakland της California των ΗΠΑ, από τις στάχτες των συγκροτημάτων "The Baylanders" και "The sewer".
Τη σύνθεση αποτελούσαν οι Kyle Hunter (φωνητικά, τύμπανα), Gary Kennings (μπάσο) και Roger Sabine (κιθάρα, φωνητικά) από τους "The Baylanders", Mark Minzyk (τύμπανα) και Art Doran (όργανο) από τους "The Sewer", Jim Thorsen (κιθάρα) από τους "The Tempests" και o "Len" Nin (συνθεσάιζερ).
Τον Μάρτιο του 1968 κυκλοφόρησαν με την εταιρεία Worex Records ένα σινγλ με τα τραγούδια "The Forest Of Black" και "Morning Sunflower".
Τίτλοι μερικών από τις χαμένες ηχογραφήσεις περιλαμβάνουν τα "Jumping Like a Jellyfish" και "The Love Candle".
Οι στίχοι του "Forest Of Black" αποτελούν πιθανώς έναν φόρο τιμής στο «Bass Strings», όπου τραγουδάει ο Country Joe από τους Country Joe and the Fish.

I go down to the seashore to wash my brain
when i go down to the seashore to wash my brain
I never come backfeelin' the same now
I never come backfeelin' the same
What do i see in the sea?
What do i see in the sea?
Well, it's me lookin' inside of me
I said it's me lookin' inside of me
I said it's me... yeaaoww!

Little is known about The Dirty Filthy Mud. This mysterious band was formed in the mid-1960s in Oakland, California, USA, from the ashes of the bands "The Baylanders" and "The Sewer".
The line-up consisted of Kyle Hunter (vocals, drums), Gary Kennings (bass) and Roger Sabine (guitar, vocals) from "The Baylanders", Mark Minzyk (drums) and Art Doran (instrument) from "The Sewer", Jim Thorsen (guitar) from "The Tempests" and "Len" Nin (synthesizer).
In March 1968, they released a single with the songs "Forest Of Black" and "Morning Sunflower" on Worex Records. They recorded more songs, but Kyle Hunter, who was said to have suffered from bipolar disorder, threw away the matrix, which is rumored to have included an 11-minute version of "Forest Of Black".
A 10-inch acetate EP was also cut, which has not been released to this day, with a longer version of "Forest of Black" without the Moog synthesizer, but with a wonderful raga-style guitar, played by drummer(!) Kyle Hunter, who also did the vocals. Titles of some of the lost recordings include "Jumping Like a Jellyfish" and "The Love Candle".
I think "Forest Of Black" with its very innovative psychedelic intro and amazing sound effects is way ahead of its time and reminds me quite a bit of CAN's Mother Sky from 1970.
Today, The Dirty Filthy Mud's only single is extremely rare and collectible, worth around $2000, while "Forest Of Black" has also appeared on a number of compilation albums.
The lyrics of "Forest Of Black" are probably a tribute to "Bass Strings", sung by Country Joe from Country Joe and the Fish.
