I’ve been called many things in my time. Some good some bad. That’s true for you, too.
Your parents look at you and call you their child. If you have kids, your children look at you and call you their parent. Corporations look at you and call you a consumer. Friends call you a friend. Enemies call you an enemy. The guy who’s tailgating you in the fast lane waiting for you to move over calls you something I can’t say in church.
You’ve been called many things in your time. Some good some bad. Some matter some don’t. Some are an accurate reflection of who you are, and some are not.
This mourning we’re going to hear what Jesus calls you. Does that matter? Yes it does. From him you find your true identity. From him who find out who you are. And in this section of the sermon on the mount, Jesus looks at you and says, you are salt and you are light.
