As part of ’s Stripped Down series, we met up with Third Eye Blind’s frontman Stephan Jenkins to tape this special version of “All These Things” from the band’s latest album, Dopamine.

The band, which originally formed in San Francisco in 1993 and has sold more than 12 million albums worldwide, has also withstood numerous line-up changes. It’s been six years since the group last released an album, and Dopamine features yet another set of players.

The album’s charming, melodic pop-rock is a welcome return for fans. Showcasing songs that speak from the heart about life’s struggles, the tunes carry a blush of heartache and resignation.

“The themes on this album have become clear to me,” Jenkins says. “Each album reveals something about myself. I don’t write from an intellectual standpoint, I write really from a much more emotional standpoint. The biggest issue is to not judge myself, not criticize myself, which I’m quite capable of doing.”

Listen to Jenkins perform a solo acoustic version of “All These Things,” and the song’s sentimentality becomes clear. “All these things, all these things are yours,” he sings. “Let that feeling, let it make you strong.”

If anyone’s to judge Jenkins, it seems the verdict is clear: He’s still got a knack for writing a catchy hook and lyrics.
