BORDONEO y 900 and Lorenzo...
Lorenzo, is an animated short film produced by the Walt Disney Studios. Originally conceived in 1949 but shelved, it was later found and intended to be included in the proposed film Fantasia 2006. The film was written and directed by Mike Gabriel in collaboration with Joe Grant, the original artist. In search of music, Gabriel went to a Virgin Megastore and spent US$346 buying 40 tango CDs. The first track he listened to was Bordoneo y Novecientos by Juan José Mosalini and the Big Tango Orchestra and Mosalini was hired to record a new version in France. Ultimately, Fantasia 2006 was also shelved in 2003 but Lorenzo was released as a short and premiered at the Florida Film Festival 06-03-2004. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Short Film (Animated) in 2005 and won the 2005 Annie Award for Best Animated Short Subject. The composer, Osvaldo Ruggiero and fellow Bandoneonista, Juan José Mosalini, were both members of the Osvaldo Pugliese orchestra. Pugliese's original version is linked from these notes.
