Regarded by many as the best single ever recorded by The Mamas & The Papas, nevertheless this song failed to chart in the UK and is virtually unknown over here. (It did make #20 in the US charts). The "canyon" in the title is the Los Angeles neighbourhood, Laurel Canyon. And the inspiration for the 12:30 part came from a clock the band knew back in New York which was permanently stuck at that time.
